Meet Leigh – our designer. The team at Wanaka Joinery love our partnership with Leigh. He has a deep passion for ensuring that our clients get the best-looking products for the best value. With over 30 years’ experience in joinery, design and detailing, Leigh’s experience combined with his infectious enthusiasm are a great addition to our team.
Leigh grew up in Devon, England and studied art and design in Wales. Having run his own home renovation business, including design and build of furniture and joinery, in the Welsh countryside, Leigh relocated to Christchurch, New Zealand. Since then, he has worked in joinery, detailing, consulting and design.
What does Leigh love about his job? “It’s different every time. Design is subjective. Listening to what the client wants and then elevating this design by using products, materials and processes cleverly, without breaking the bank, is very satisfying”.
Leigh and his family moved to NZ for the lifestyle and a better life for the kids. “In the UK it’s harder to live in the mountains and get a good job”. Embracing life to the full, he learned to snowboard at Treble Cone. As a family they love the mountains and the lifestyle Wanaka offers!
When Leigh and his family visited Wanaka from Christchurch over 10 years ago for snowboarding, they knew they’d love to live here. Leigh even looked into the work Wanaka Joinery were doing back then! So, when he saw the advert for a designer, he knew it was the perfect fit… we totally agree!
Says Leigh, “My role is about adding value by elevating the design. Designers are also in the unique position to get discounts on materials as well as providing the proper documentation, so all the trades know exactly what they are doing from the outset”.
